Just like today, technology was a driving force in the late 19th century, and due to this fact peoples lives changed as there was an increase in industrialization more than agricultural. This meant that mass production of items was happening. In those days people used to make handmade crockery such as teapots and cups, this meant that each and every house had no identical teapot. Things had changed in the victorian times and now not only teapots looked the same but they also came in different shapes and colours like never before. Due to the surge of people wanting to buy new things, competition started to arise and this is where graphic design is involved. In order to compete manufactures were creating posters, leaflets and pocket cards to convince their consumers to buy their product and not the one down the street. At the same time new machines for printing were being invented this meant that print was now finer which lead to greater power and creativity when it comes to advertising and graphic design. The posters being created were very positive, this can be seen from the orderly placed images and text and vivid colours. This was done because people were enjoying the new ways of technology and the victorians were in the midst of it. References VICTORIAN ADVERTISING | History of Advertising. 2014.
