In 1984 apple released the Machintosh which revolutionized the whole industry. The initials works were primitive with use of Helvetica, Times New Roman and bit mapped images with slow processes. As technology improved the design solutions became more refined now designers were trying to find a common language unique to the digital environment. Images were pixelated at first and degenerated, typography was highlighted and the idea of accident and imperfection was incorporated into the design. A clear example of this can be seen in P.Scott Makela's work in 1992.The digital medium enhanced the idea of new digital typography and 3D space was given a new perspective. Typography became radically 3 Dimensional and layered. Many designers who were experimenting with this new type of art embraced Post-Modernism, the digitalization also created something in which gave common people power. Now anyone from a graphic designer to a firefighter could design at ease and with no problems what so ever. Having said that a clear line was drawn when civilians started design, it was labeled as low end design and high end design created by trained designers. The ability to design fonts in a digital format created opportunities for exploration. AdamsMorioka in 1994 created a bitmap work including exaggerations of typography and imagery. The mac revolutionized the way people looked at design and gave an opportunity for common non graphic designers to create designs and give them opportunity. Even though this was a big step in society and technology there were also graphic designers that did not agree about this as they believed that art by hand would soon stop and cease to exist due to the digital designs. |
