In the late 1800 society was bombarded with products which were machine made, it was removing hand made objects and instead replacing them with cheap machine made products. Alphonse Mucha 1897 was part of Art Nouveau his style was fluent and inspired by nature and flat. The ideas of returning back to hand made objects inspired many people including architects and so on. The Japanese woodblock was also influenced by the art nouveau such as Manuel Orazi in 1905. Aubrey Beardsley was one of the top of the art Nouveau movement 1893 he illustrated books and limited edition prints. He used to illustrate in black and white and quite often increase the contrast of the image in order to make it look more effective. He mainly used shapes from flowing vines, trees and other related objects in nature. Beardsley also used animal tails such as the peacocks and other forms for his illustrations. Alphonse mucha in 1894 also shared the same aspects as that of Beardsley which included the flowing movement and flat image. Mucha in contrast over Beardsley included colour and mixed patterns , this is because mainly Mucha used to create large scale poster and not illustrations for books so the detail had to be larger. Mucha used Arabic and Byzantine motifs for his patterns, boarders and typography. References: Art Nouveau - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. 2015. Art Nouveau - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
